Not long ago, Romania has crowned its team champions, both in open and women sections. The tournaments started on 3rd of October in the famous Romanian beach resort, Mamaia.
Known for its great parties and the big sandy beaches, Mamaia has turned into the most popular touristic destination and can become, at times, overcrowded. Starting from May, when the sun starts chasing the cold away, the tourists rush to the seaside to enjoy the beach, the parties, the annual carnival (inspired from the Rio one), have a ride over the city in the cable car or just spend a fun day in the Aqua Park.
However, we arrived to an almost empty (that did become completely empty until the end) and tranquil Mamaia thanks to the extra season, which created the perfect conditions for playing chess.
In the men section, AEM Luxten Timisoara started out as favorites with an average rating of 2582, followed by Clubul de Sah al Municipiului Baia Mare (2572) and Medicina Timisoara (2562).… Read more “Romanian Team Championship”
It has been a weekend full of chess here, in Bucharest. Almost 40 teams (men and women) have been fighting for the rapid national champions title. The tournament was opened by ECU president Zurab Azmaiparashvili, who was present in Bucharest on the occasion of the ECU Board Meeting.
The men section gathered 32 teams and, after 9 rounds, Clubul de Sah al Municipiului Baia Mare emerged as a winner (for the third time in a row). The women’s title was disputed between 5 teams, who played a double round robin tournament. It was won by Politehnica Iasi, who finished undefeated.
My team, CSM Bucuresti, who won the title last year, wasn’t able to repeat the performance and finished third. I had a good tournament myself, managing to score important wins in the matches against the favourites. Here are some pictures from the event:
Last week the Romanian Team Championship (Superleague) has concluded in Calimanesti, a nice mountain resort in southern part of Romania. The event has gathered 8 women and 10 men teams that have been fighting for the national title.
Although there were only 8 teams in the women section, the tournament was very strong and the title was decided in the very last round. Each match was played on 4 boards and each team was allowed a number of two reserve players. My team, CSM Bucharest, composed of IM Corina Peptan, IM Deimante Daulyte, WIM Raluca Sgîrcea, WGM Irina Ionescu, Georgiana Morea and Petruţa Moldovan, had a good tournament and won silver medal. Our second board, Deimante, won first prize on second board. I played on the third board and scored 2.5 points out of 4. You can find the final standings below:
