Solution to yesterday’s puzzle

R. Castellanos - A.Kogan White to play and win

R. Castellanos – A.Kogan White to play and win

In the game I played 19.Ng5 Bf8 20.Bh7+ Kh8 21.Be4 g6 22.Qf3 and eventually won, white is still better there and has a lasting initiative. However I discovered that white could have won inmediatebly by playing the correct:
19.Nf6+!
a) 19…Bxf6 20.Qxd5 +-
b) 19…gxf6 20.Qg4+!
(also natural is 20.Qxh6 f5 21.Bf4! with ideas like Re3 next, the inmediate 21.Re3 black has Bd6 with some resistance) Kf8 (20…Kh8 21.Bxh6) 21.Bxh6+ Ke8 22.Bc4! Rf5 23.Qg8+Kd7 24.Qxf7 +-
